High-end with LED Pout > 35 W
High-end headlamps (Class C&D) LED drive modules to focus on design and performance:
- Microcontroller for welcome functions, fading, etc.,
- More than 10 LEDs within total >35 W for a high lumen output
- Daytime running light by a dedicated LED string
- DC-DC buck-boost topology for a better load dump or cranking performance
Middle-range with LED Pout 15-35 W
Mid-level headlamps (Class C&D) focus on efficiency. Mileage per liter is an important selling point for the OEMs. Therefore, the focus lies on more efficient LED driver modules with synchronous DC-DC converters:
- Same lumen output as for high-end two-wheelers
- Daytime running lights may be using the same LEDs as high or low beam lights
- DC-DC buck-boost topology for a better load dump or cranking performance.
Entry-level with LED Pout <15 W
Entry-level headlamps (Class B) - electronic designs are typically based on a minimized BOM (bill of materials):
- 3-5 LEDs within total < 15 W
- Asynchronous DC-DC converters
