Infineon's BlueMoon-Single-Chip to Achieve Bluetooth Qualification: Lowest cost and fastest time-to-market through "Fast Track Qualification"
Munich, Germany, April 29, 2002 - Infineon Technologies (FSE/NYSE: IFX) today announced that the BlueMoon Single chip achieved full compliance with Bluetooth specification 1.1. The device has been listed as a qualified component including radio frequency, baseband and protocol software tests by 7 layers AG, Germany. All tests have been carried out over the temperature range of -50°C to +105°C, proving the outstanding performance of this device.
BlueMoon Single is a pure CMOS Bluetooth single chip system solution including baseband controller, integrated ROM memory and RF transceiver providing an excellent performance of -85dBm sensitivity over the full temperature range with lowest bill of material and minimal board space requirements due to it's high level of integration.
The combination of lowest cost and highest performance together with sophisticated power management features makes this IC ideally suited for battery driven, handheld devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and digital cameras.

BlueMoon Single is the world's highest integrated semiconductor solution for the Blue-tooth short-range wireless technology. This solution combines baseband DSP, radio functionality, memory and software, all integrated into one single-chip and is aimed at applications requiring Bluetooth functionality in small form factor such as cellular phones and personal digital assistants.
BlueMoon Single complements Infineon's BlueMoon family and targets applications where size is of highest priority. The BlueMoon family now is the broadest semiconductor solutions offering worldwide and comprises solutions optimized for each of the main application segments. BlueMoon Single combines Infineon's expertise in radio circuit design with state-of-the-art CMOS technology. The advanced architecture is based on the already proven and Bluetooth V1.1 qualified baseband technology and software from the BlueMoon I chipset together with a new high performance radio part realised in CMOS technology. Special measures have been taken to assure highest performance over tem-perature and minimize spurious emissions of the RF part. The BlueMoon Single features integrated ROM-based memory and offers an external Flash-interface for rapid prototyping and pre-production. The Bluetooth V1.1 qualified Link Manager and HCI (Host Controller Inter-face) is supplied with the IC as firmware. The BlueMoon Single integrates a 920 kBaud UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter) for data as well as a dedicated PCM interface for voice.
Based on long-term experience with testing and qualifying wireless systems, 7 layers has developed the highly efficient InterLab® system. It makes excellent use of qualified reference designs and components, so that Bluetooth qualification for end-user product manufacturers becomes more efficient.
