An electromechanical braking system (EMB) is a type of braking system that uses electrical and mechanical components to slow or stop a vehicle. It does this by using an electric motor or actuator to apply the brakes instead of hydraulic pressure, as in traditional hydraulic braking systems. The electric motor receives braking commands from the brake pedal ECU (driver input) or other systems such as a central computer (e.g., stability control).

Electromechanical brakes (EMB) can be more easily integrated, especially in electric vehicles (EVs), offering several advantages:
- Easier routing: The vehicle's "skateboard" chassis does not need to accommodate the routing of traditional hydraulic lines.

- Reduced weight: EMB can be lighter than hydraulic brakes, reducing the overall weight of the vehicle and improving its efficiency.
- Lower system cost: The total cost of the braking system is lower than traditional braking
- Improved control: EMB can be controlled more precisely than hydraulic brakes, allowing for improved braking performance and better integration with the vehicle's other systems, such as regenerative braking, stability control, or anti-lock braking.
- Lower maintenance: EMB typically have fewer moving parts than hydraulic brakes, making them easier to maintain and reducing the risk of failure.
