48 V to 24 V DC-DC converter for CAV
System solution for 48 V to 24 V DC-DC converters in buck mode (step-down) - high power density, high efficiency, and functional safety
A comprehensive system solution for 48 V to 24 V DC-DC converters in electric vehicles (EV) and in commercial, construction, and agricultural vehicles (CAV) - these buck-mode converters supply continuous energy to the lower-voltage network. With high integration and space-saving design, the solution includes supply ICs, MCUs, gate drivers, and high-power MOSFETs. The block diagram shows the basic layout of a 3 kW DC-DC 48 V/24 V converter.
48 V to 24 V DC-DC converters in a buck mode (step-down) configuration
To ensure a continuous power supply to the lower-voltage network, a buck mode (step-down) DC-DC converter plays a crucial role by converting 48 V to 24 V, delivering the required voltage and performance for electric commercial vehicles. Although the converter can also function in boost mode (step-up), this is currently uncommon and may be relevant for advanced automated drive functions in the 48 V system. Typically, capable of supporting loads up to 3 kW, additional 3 kW DC-DC converters are incorporated when higher power is required. In modern vehicle architectures, a 48 V backbone serves as an efficient means of distributing low voltage (LV) to specific zones, where local 48V-to-LV DC-DC converters convert it to the desired voltage level.
