A Day in the Life of an Infineon Test Development Engineer
Learn more about the day-to-day life of an Infineon Test Development Engineer from Principal Test Engineer Wilmar Arreola. As a test development engineer, your daily responsibilities directly feed into Infineon’s new product rollouts by crafting the code that enables automated testing. It’s a critical role, and to illustrate its importance, we asked Wilmar to share what a typical day looks like.

Test Development Responsibilities
Develop the test program that supports production release of Infineon’s new products. Test development engineers play a vital role in the release of new products by developing the test programs that enables automated production tests, may it be in wafer or package form.
Most of an Infineon test development engineer’s day involves test method coding, pattern generation and test debug while collaborating with the design and product engineering teams with regards to the testing results.
Wilmar Arreola, Principal Test Engineer: “On a typical day, we mostly work on the test program of the device we’re working to release, whether it's the test code that controls the equipment in automated testing, or the test patterns that inject stimuli into the tested device.
Ultimately, my broader responsibility is to support new product releases by creating production test programs that meet Infineon’s standards for quality, test time and yield.”
Cross-Team Collaboration
Prepare for a great deal of knowledge-sharing. While most of your time as a test development engineer is spent developing critical test patterns and test methods, about a third is dedicated to meetings with other teams to share knowledge and insights, strategize on the new product planning, and to identify TEST challenges that other groups may be facing:
Wilmar Arreola: “Test development engineers mostly work with the design team for test patterns/device conditions, to ensure that the parameters to be tested are properly defined in the test plan, and to share knowledge for future improvements in terms for making TEST more cost-effective, robust and production-friendly.
We also work with the product engineers on a handful of important tasks, from addressing customer concerns that relate to TEST coverage and to ensuring that test flow, hardware, and testers can be properly supported by the production site.”
Contribute to Change, Every Day!
At Infineon, your daily tasks contribute to the much bigger picture. Whether it’s a new design for a specific client or a project with broad applications, your skills, and talent will always contribute to the greater good. According to Wilmar, knowing that his work impacts major products that have world changing potential is what he loves most about his role at Infineon:
Wilmar Arreola: “I take great pride and satisfaction in knowing our work directly impacts product cost, profitability, and ease of use. Every department has a clear purpose–and I’m proud of our team for releasing devices that drive where the market and technology is headed.”
