Traction
Best-possible solutions for everything from light rail to high-speed trains
The global trend of gradually eliminating the use of fossil fuels has challenging consequences for numerous industries, including transportation. The transition toward green mobility involves reducing short-haul flights and travel by car, which in turn, will encourage the growth of rail. Government decarbonization measures support this development: In Europe, various subsidy programs worth billions of euros are planned for rail transportation. Changes are on the horizon for rail, as environmentally-friendly electric solutions will incrementally replace diesel locomotives. Reliability and the corresponding high quality are must-haves in the application, in which products must have an expected service lifetime of 20 to 30 years. Overall, reliable green mobility is the key driver for future growth and change in rail systems.
Infineon understands your challenges today and in the future. That's why we offer a comprehensive product portfolio of best-in-class solutions for traction systems with the highest power density and excellent efficiency. Our components stand out for their long lifetime and provide the reliability your traction application needs to keep on running year after year in harsh environmental conditions.
Our extensive IHV portfolio provides a wide range of power switches with blocking voltages in 3,3 kV, 4,5 kV, and 6,5 kV for propulsion drives in metro, EMU, and high-speed trains locomotives. Efficiency, highest power density, and reliability are key features of this portfolio. Our extensive IHM portfolio addresses applications in the 1,7 kV domain like tram and metro.
Our latest XHP™ package generation is offered for new and future-proof designs. This package family allows for low inductive and scalable designs from 1,7 kV up to 6.5 kV, and thus it is the optimal choice for all kinds of traction systems like tram, metro, EMU, locomotive, and high-speed trains. It is used for propulsions as well as auxiliary inverters. The latter application is operated by our 62mm modules, too.
