Smart power switches provide easier control, while offering diagnostics and increased protection, higher reliability and greater cost savings compared to discrete solutions. Smart, or intelligent power switches (IPD), consist of a power stage and control technology to provide advanced functionality such as preventing damage caused by high temperature, over current, or over voltage. This protected MOSFET power switch control circuitry also enables diagnostics to indicate the operation state of the smart power switch to the system.
Infineon’s range of protected MOSFET power switch includes both smart low-side (ground switching) and high-side switches (power switching). Our PROFET™ portfolio of smart high-side protected MOSFET power switches are automotive qualified and suitable for nearly all automotive applications as well as many industrial applications. These high-efficient power distribution switch ICs provide excellent protection against short circuit, overcurrent, and overtemperature while driving capacitive, inductive, and resistive loads.
Infineon’s HITFET™ and TEMPFET™ smart low-side power switch product families are the ideal solution for applications that need ground switching. Our range of smart low-side power distribution switches offers advanced protection from high temperature, advanced diagnostics, high speed PWM, slew rate control, and improved performance and reliability resulting in potential system cost savings.

HITFET™ + 12V is Infineon’s new generation of protected low-side switches for automotive and industrial applications. A novel technology enables a significant reduction (of up to 50 percent) in size compared with the existing Classic HITFET™ 12V portfolio. HITFET™ + 12V devices provide the ultimate design flexibility. The family consists of standard (BTS3xxxEJ/TF) and fully featured low-side switches (BTF3xxxEJ/TE) scaling from 11 mΩ to 125 mΩ in two different packages: TO-252 and TDSO-8. These devices are able to switch all kinds of resistive, inductive and capacitive loads.
HITFET™+ 24V, the first fast low-side switch, is capable of driving PWM signals of up to 20 kHz. It comes in a TDSO-8 package, which is five times smaller in size than the competition, thus paving the way for cost and PCB-space savings. A status pin enables the microcontroller to detect and diagnose failures faster. The device also comes with improved temperature protection, and is up to ten times more robust against short circuits.
HITFET™ + 24V is an ideal switch for braking, transmission and compressor systems.
